This preliminary report analyses the current state of Regulations, Codes and Standards (RCS) applicable to safety of liquid hydrogen (LH₂) handling and fuelling in the context of the DelHyVEHR project.
The findings reveal several regulatory gaps, especially in areas such as boil-off gas management, cryogenic pump design, purging procedures, and electrostatic discharge prevention. Although many safety aspects are adequately covered by current standards—particularly those related to ignition control and pressure relief, other critical aspects remain underdeveloped or are only addressed through internal practices. This report proposes initial recommendations to strengthen the regulatory framework in support of LH₂ safety, according to the DelHyVEHR project’s objectives and its alignment with EU climate and energy policy.
